Re: Auto shifts too early?! 700 1986

Just because the maximum safe engine speed (before the explosion) is 6,000 RPM does NOT mean the transmission should be shifting there. Your transmission shifts a little early, not a lot. You can adjust the kickdown cable a bit tighter with the nylon nut behind the throttle drum so that the cable is at full detent with the accelerator pedal mashed into the carpet (engine off).

You'll be a whole lot better off letting the transmission decide when to shift, 'cause if you mis-shift on your 14 year old brick with Gawd knows how many miles on it, you're sure to find Swedish iron just flying out the side of the block.
