Re: Lumbar fix 700 92

Hi Fieraci,

Yes the lumbar can be fixed without having to purchase a replacement part. You need to be moderately handy with a drill.

It is the white nylon/plastic screw that generally breaks. I've repaired a 700 & 900 and believe the repair is stronger than the original. This is done by placing a 10mm Bolt through the centre of the broken nylon screw.

See Steve Ringlee's FAQs for a detailed repair.

The FAQ description is for a 93 900. However, the only difference between the 700, and the nylon screw found on the 900, is that the end section of the screw in the 700 is slightly shorter, meaning you have to put a locating pin through the end screwed section. This is no problem as it can be filed to be flush.

Additional to what is in FAQs, use plastic ties to pull the rear and front sections of the seat back together again. The fit between the top section and bottom section of the seat in a 700 is very snug.

Take care,

John H from DOWNUNDER
