I have an '86 245, with LH 2.2 FI, I believe yours would be the same. To the best of my knowledge, the actual redline is at 6000 RPM, and LH 2.2 has a fuel cutoff that I think is supposed to be activated at 6000.

I encountered the fuel cutoff in my car at about 5700-5800 RPM, as I recall. You know when it's happening because the car will start to buck and lurch; needless to say, you will let up on the throttle fast. In any case, this feature will presumably save you from ever over-revving the engine and blowing up that #1 conn rod.

Personally, I think that the B230 could probably see 6500 with no problems assuming it didn't lean out or anything, but this is simply conjecture on my part. As for the over-revving safety feature, I would just as soon do without it. I can't imagine that shutting off the fuel at 5800 revs was any better for my engine than over-revving a little, and even if I ever got near 6500, it would have to be a conscious effort - there's not too much power up there, especially with the stock cam.
