Resistor for Fan switch 200 1990

I replaced the fan motor in my '90 245 last year because of bearing noise. I recently replaced the 4 speed fan switch since there was never a 1st. speed since I have owned the car. Well theres still no 1st. speed. Was that resistor included with the fan replacment? I can't remember. Would the resistor affect the temperature of heat on the passenger side? Where is it located?? Need help, thanx, Duck
