Before you order a new fuel pump you might want to check the connections at the pump. You said you tapped it and it started running.

I've replaced fuel pumps on my old 75 and on my 80 and have always ended up redoing the wiring at the pump connection..the insulation had been rubbed off or the positive connector was corroded. This stuff is all hanging underneath the car and in the winter it gets a good salt bath, and since yours sat all summer it has had plently of time to corrode.

The pump may be ok?
