Had the same thing happen on my 89 740 sedan. I replaced the starter with one from an 86 240. Hasn't happened again for 2 months. I had the original starter checked out by Pepboys and O'Riely's, tested out OK. Maybe a loose connection? My 2cents worth. Genaro.
