I've seen an 8 bar gauge out of a Porsche, so I don't think it's too odd. Maybe for some cars the 8 bar gauge is like the 3 bar Volvo gauge (not quite enough) and the 10 bar is the better choice (like the 5 bar Volvo gauge). I don't really know, I'm just offering a theory.
