thermostat stuck open = problems? 200 86

Is driving around with a stuck-open thermostat bad for the car? (I plan to replace it, but am taking a road trip today, dunno if there's time)

I have reason to suspect that my thermostat is stuck open. Driving around in very cold air last night, it took forever for the heater to get going. Even then it wasn't so hot.

The temp guage has been reading very low for a while, but I always reasoned that the compensating board was going south (I'm quite sure of this one) and I have not yet pulled the instrument cluster.

Thanks for any advice.
