Fuel Capacity Cured ! 700 1990

Hello all,

I posted last week about my newly acquired 1990 740 Wagon only seeming to have a ten gallon fuel tank. I went into it from the access plate in the back this weekend and after contemplating the fuel pump/sending unit for a while the answer to the problem became obvious. I marked the relative postion of the unit to the fuel tank before I removed it. Once out, I noticed there is a cut out in the tank baffle for the sending unit. Ah Ha! The bozo that had been in the tank before me had reinstalled the unit clocked 30 degrees CCW from it's proper position. This made both the pickup and gage an inch or two from the bottom of the tank. I did replace the $22 sock filter while I was there even though the old one was only discolored. I filled up last night and all seems to be working well. It will be interesting to see how far I can go on a tank of gas now.

Thanks for all the great input.

Billy
