Just about anyone here can tell you that starvation issues related to fuel height are due to failure of either the in-tank pump, or more likely, the rubber joint that connects its outlet to the pipe.

I wish my economy were that good (25 mpg), my beast would have swallowed 65-70 litres in that distance (20 mpg).

If the guage were correct, we'd be left with 6-8 litres (1.5-2 gal) at the top of the red band.
