Thank you Jason Ira & Tim,

I will Inspect the fuel filter in the tank this weekend. Old VW bugs would do the same thing - clogged sock - run out of gas when here was still some in the tank. You say I can go through a panel from inside the car for this job, does that also apply to my Wagon? That stil doesn't explain why the gas gage read empty when I could only put 10 gallons in the tank. Hmmmm, strut rod bushings. I will try to look at that. Are they user friendly to replace?
