I've done this on several of my cars.

The power for the instrument light connects to the small black gizmo sticking from the back of the gauge, and requires ting female connectors. You can scrounge these from a junk—they're identical to those used on the clock.

You can wire the light into the circuit for the clock.

The power connections go (1) to a good, solid ground, and (2) to a source of switched +12-volts. I ran mine to the fuse panel and selected an unused connector on a fuse that powers when the key is on.

The picture below shows the backside of the gauge. The top connections are the bulb, the lower powers the gauge. Ordinarily, a large black push-on connector is used for the ground and +12-volt wires, which you can see in the pix.
