Re: Which speedo gear?? 200 1979

Keith --

The question of "which specific gear" should go to the Volvo parts counter.

Increasing tire size and reducing the ratio both conspire to slow the driveshaft at a given vehicle speed. To compensate, you must increase the speedo cable speed. This means a smaller speedo driven gear.

The plastic gears are color-coded — I don't remember the colors, but in my '75 245 I think I replaced the pink gear using a green gear (when I swapped in an OD tranny).

As I recall, these gears have approximately 20 teeth, and obviously you can only change by an incremental tooth (18, 19, 20, 21, 22, etc.) or +/- 5%.
