Difference between Paint Code 406 & 406-3? 700 1988

I thought the dash number had to do with whether clear coat or not and if yes, the type of clear coat. Yet here: https://www.volvoclub.org.uk/paint_colour_codes.shtml Color shade variation, manufacturer vendor, and other shtuff!!! Hope that helps!
