thump, thump thump on acceleration 120-130

This may not apply to your car, but I notice a thump-thump-thump when accelerating heavily in a low gear. This is in a 1967 wagon/combo/222S.

I tentatively attribute it to an old rubber bushing at the front end of the right torque tube running forward from the axle. The bushing has an unusual rectangular cross section, and appears to allow metal to metal contact under heavy load. Just a suggestion something similar could be worth checking on yours.
