93 240 electric lock mechanism repaired 200 1993

The electric lock function on the driver's keyed door lock had been inop for a while. The plunger was working fine, and I removed the lock cylinder collar when it was beyond repair.

Matt at BlackVLV found a decent used one that I refurbished and installed this week. It's nice to have the locks working with the key again!

Here are some pics of the inside before and after cleaning: 240 electrical lock cylinder mechanism

A few notes:
- be careful removing the cap. The plastic is tough and durable after 30+ years, more so than other parts
- the aluminum races inside the mechanism are attached to the plastic with tabs. Attempting to remove them may result in the tabs breaking off (I know from experience). I cleaned these in place
- electronic connection cleaner was great for removing oxidation and other gunk. Followed by some light sanding, and cleaning, everything cleaned up well.
- liquid electrical tape was my friend here. I used multiple coats and it seems to be working well.
- finally, I used some dielectric grease before inserting the sled and reassembling it.

The part number on the original part in the car is 3540135. The replacement part is 1347547. They seem to be identical, except for the sled in the mechanism. The former is white; the latter is black.

Oh, a side note for VCOA members. You can see the 240 on the back of the current magazine issue. My daughter was hell-bent on Volvo recognizing our collection. She had us pose and she submitted the picture last summer. I only found out about it when I finished reading the issue and got the shock of my life on the back cover.

Happy holidays.
