Door Speakers - 700 Replacement sizes? 700 1990

Yes, Crutchfield is all kinds of wrong and has many different models confused together.

Even though 744s have cutouts in the metal for rear deck speakers, I don't know that any ever came stock. Maybe it's gotten info from a 940 with component speakers that had 4 inch dash speakers, but it seems very wrong.

After taking a bunch of measurements and looking at speaker diagrams, I think that 6.5 inch speakers are the way to go. They are 6.5 inch in name but no part of them except maybe the grills are 6.5 inches. The hole in the door is about 5.75 inches, and the "cutout" dimension on these speakers I ordered is 5.7. I found a turbobricks post where someone found some jvcs that fit perfectly except about 2mm of metal surround on the speaker. They just cut it off so that the original grills would fit. I believe that's essential since the grills keep the door panel secured in place and resist vibration.

I'll let you all know which fit. Maybe I can write a FAQ section for it.
