Purpose of OD lockout 200 1992

Dont know why they designed it to fail in lockout mode.

My guess is no one designed it to fail. The 4th gear was an add-on to an older well-proven design, instead of a ground-up new transmission.

However, tongue in cheek, I can imagine claiming to be Mike would have never been aware or cared if somehow the solenoid valve could have been made to close when energized. Those happy with the bypass plate, as I've rhymed in the past, drive "mainly on the plain." Or drive submarines. And they don't tow.

Here's some humor on the subject. https://www.brickboard.com/RWD/volvo/737816/volvo_240_automatic_transmission_overdrive_circuit_spellchecked.html
