Remote starter switch 444-544

Anybody know why my remote starter switch arced across big time between contacts? I hooked it up correctly to posts 30 (from battery) and 50 (small tab from ignition) on the starter solenoid of my PV, hit the button and YIKES! Heavy sparking across the small tab #50 to the big large post "Outlet" that goes into the starter casing. I stopped immediately, didn't want to damage anything. I know these two contacts are quite close to each other, but what would be creating so powerful a field to cause this? Should I coat the "outlet" post in rubberized insulation or something to prevent this? I'd like to use a remote start switch to nudge the engine while working in the compartment. I
