We drove our usually very dependable 1993 Volvo 240 to Bremen, Georgia last night for a music concert. When we came out to head home (1 1/2 hours away), the car would not start. It sounded like the timing was off and/or the engine was missing on several cylinders. On the 4th try, after a short prayer, the engine started. Less than a minute later, while we were explaining to someone approaching us to offer help that everything was OK, the engine stalled out. Lifted the hood to check that all spark plugs were tight. In doing so, the vacuum hose that runs near the distributor cap came loose. Re-secured that firmly and then the car cranked again. As before, the car ran as smoothly as a sewing machine once cranked. But sadly, once again, less than a minute later before we were completely out of the parking lot, the car stalled out again. We fueled up on the way to Bremen and know that we have plenty of fuel in the tank. We had to abandon our car for the evening. Called a good friend who was willing to come pick us up and drive us back to our home.
We'd like to know if anyone has any possible tips / solutions for this problem. Possible fuel relay issue or faulty fuel pump issue??
Also, does anyone know of a reliable, honest Volvo mechanic near Bremen, Georgia which is also very close to Carrollton, GA? In our east Alabama town of residence, we do not have a reliable Volvo mechanic.
