Advice needed on whether to heat wrap the exhaust manifold or install heat shield on B21F n/a 200 1982

I want to replace it because I will soon be swapping in a B cam, new hushers, head gasket, end seals, etc. and since I will already be in the area, I'd rather do it all in one shot. Besides, it's in very bad shape, and I don't want to be on the road somewhere when it finally gives. As it stands I'm not quite sure how I'm going to be able to remove it myself...I can't even see the actual studs because they have congealed with the nuts into a giant rusty mound. My ethos with this car has been to replace everything I can while I continue to daily it, as I know I will keep it for a long time and want to stay ahead of the game.
