Try 3M Super 33. You should have some in your toolbox anyway. The other electrical tape ain't worth a darn. 3M also has Super 88 but I've never used it so I couldn't say.

I can tell you that I have used the 33 on those diaphragm lacerations. The repair didn't last forever but it lasted for a while. I too tried the tire pump patches. They stunk.

Also don't forget to use that narrow protector piece when you reinstall the diaphragm.
