She has the aptitude and willingness to learn. She is not afraid to call with questions either. I can also force the team Mom's kid to give it a once over and do all the PM items I require...they owe me.

She is still of an age to care about the image a car projects so my normal budget "appliance" cars were not options (Mazda Protege, Buick Regal, etc). She wants somewhat modern safety so a Mercedes 190 was out as well. VW's in her price range are from the era of terrible electrical woes and engine immobilizers integrated with the factory stereo.
