More info... Fixed, for now... 900 1995

Spook that's good thing to check - never would have considered that to be a factor. I replaced my struts a bearings a couple years ago, so those still ought to be good, but ruling them out is good science. That's also a bit consistent with the bump-n-shake I experienced...

As I waited for the car to cool off enough to work, I pulled my magnafine, drained it, and determined that fluid (and air) passes through it easily.
I replaced it and began the work of removing the pump.

I found fluid leaking directly from the PS pump shaft. Pretty damning.

I also did some other work while I was down in there, fixed a leaky top seal on the new water pump, cleaned the engine and everything, and changed the oil.

After getting the new pump installed and topping all fluids, I got some odd groans and noises. After I cycled the PS a few times, everything quieted down pretty quickly. Taking it out for a test-drive, the noises and shakes were gone - though I didn't have time for a highway test.

I'm a bit concerned that maybe I addressed the symptom rather than the cause. I guess we'll see.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll post if the issues return.
