How do I remove the "detent ring' at bottom of M47 shifter? 200 1989

Dan, that is great. Mine is like the one on the far left.
Yet, I looks like a screw in that white plastic piece, but I can look into the slot on
It's head and see through it and see metal in the back.
It won't budge, turn, or pull out. I am damaging it little
By little. It is still installed in the car at this time.
