We have a 2000 Forester (164xxx on it now) that required a bunch of work when first purchased used a few years back and had I to do lots of internet searching for answers... The best three I found were:
www.scoobymods.com
www.nasioc.com
www.subaruforester.org

Im not sure what year you were referring to but bear in mind the Subaru (like Volvo) used the same few engines in all of their vehicles and tweaked them for the specific years/ models. Thus Impreza and Outback information is likely good when taken with a grain of salt regarding a Forester...

Good luck and watch out for Catalytic Converter Codes, an early source of much swearing by me!
