turbo going going gone? 200 1983

There are three kinds of play - the kind that will result in the impeller hitting the housing is axial play/tilt- as in this kind of movement \|/ /|\ or wobble up and down along the shaft running through the blades. If the blades are hitting the housing, the housing will be scraped/torn up, and the blades will be bent or broken.

I would check for oil starvation - could you be hearing dry bearings in the turbo?

Your best bet for replacement is an identical model from a JY - and I do mean identical.

If you want to switch to another type, you'll need to absolutely bring the oil feed and return lines from the JY turbo, and ...maybe? the exhaust manifold. I don't remember the manifold being different, but I think the sealing surface of the turbo exhaust-side inlet is different for each turbo. I may be wrong. The wrong oil feed line will attach and look fine, but it will leak oil like a sieve.

Good Luck!
