Center driveline support bushing and bearing replacement. 900 1997

Dear DougC,

Hope you're well. The service life of rubber parts depends critically on how the rubber is compounded and processed, things that cannot be seen, when looking at the finished part.

Thus, for parts that are mission-critical (e.g., heater hoses) or hard-to-acess (trans mount, driveshaft bearing support) it is best to go with Volvo brand. As an example, the factory-supplied heater hoses have a service life of about 15 years (less, in an area with high ambient temperatures). Heater hoses are hard to inspect and not easy to access. Thus, the extra cost of the Volvo brand product buys a lower likelihood of: (a) coolant loss, overheating and a headgasket job and (b) having to replace the hoses, should one be so lucky as to get warning of failure (minor leak, rather than a hose rupture).

Hope this helps.

Yours faithfully,

Spook
