Trust no one.

There you go again, finding legitimate faults in the published material we all hold in such high esteem. I think, though, you make my point: The lesson to be learned is to put your trust in yourself and your own common sense, not in the recipe-like how-to's, forum suggestions, or R&R instructions in the manuals. There's no golden source, and the most common tech pubs error (by far) is the one made by copying the previous edition and missing the changes.

The reason I found 11 lb-ft worth my skepticism derives from a brief glance at a metric fastener chart, in the columns I see most often working on Volvos: M6, M8, M10. I've used those standard figures for standard hardness hardware to gauge the sanity of all the responses I see here to commonly asked "what do I torque my manifold nuts to" questions. I remember "6, 15, and 30" lb-ft, although these studs might be class 8.8 and beg for a bit more.

"I want to establish in your mind very clearly that you must not think I deny all that I do not admit. On the contrary, I think there are many things which may be true, and which I shall receive as such hereafter, though I do not as yet receive them; but that is not because there is any proof to the contrary, but that the proof in the affirmative is not yet sufficient for me"
