Restoration Status Update - '58 444 444-544

Hello everyone!

I thought I'd drop a quick note to update on the status of my 444 restoration. I stopped by First Landing Auto Care (aka The Garage) today to see how the button-up is going. The Old Lady is looking great - and like a real car now! :) I'm very excited.

Jason at the garage has completed installing all the lights including headlights, corners, brakes and license plate lights. They also installed the windshield and have tuned up the carbs, installed the door seals (the correct way now), doors, strike plates, and installed a few other odds and ends. They were going to install the door panels but unfortunately the panel backing board was installed the wrong way so that each side mirrors the other. (Thank you Mitchell's - sigh.) The driver's side will need to be reupholstered but that can wait until after the wedding. No big deal.

They're asking me for an oil filter so they can do an oil change and they think they'll be ready for me to pickup this weekend. I've asked Olof to send me a few more of these, or point me in the right direction to get one local. I think they're going to get her a good detailing and wash/wax before the week is out.

I also picked up the engine lid front-end chrome yesterday from Royal Silver and believe it or not, they still had my vent window brackets - from ALMOST THREE YEARS AGO!! I've been looking all over for these things and thankfully Royal Silver kept them for me. I'm still in shock about that. :)

Once I get her back, she'll be ready (good enough) for the wedding on May 7th. After, I'll still have plenty of little odds-and-ends to wrap up to include the flooring, headliner, drivers' side door panel and other misc. things. I'll probably also get a few seatbelts installed on the rear bench so I can take my kiddies for lots of rides on the weekend.

Keep your fingers crossed for me and say a little prayer, that nothing major happens between now and the 7th so my bride and I can roll off into the sunset. :)

Thanks to everyone who has helped me over the past two-and-a-half years to get the Old Lady back on the road. All the information, tips, advice, best-practices, part sources and etc. I wouldn't have been able to do it without you.

Ciao,
Tony
