Hidden Rust Lesson, photos of under carpet area 200

I posted another thread about rust in the wheel well
http://www.brickboard.com/RWD/volvo/1477442/220/240/260/280/photo_rusty_wheel_well.html

I decided to take out the carpeting, and see how much rust it was hiding. There was more rust than I expected. Much of the area was held together by rust flakes and paint, which fell apart with a few whacks from crowbar. The driver's seat is not visible in the photos because I temporarily removed it.

The rear wheel driver's side is visible through a rust hole.

This is looking up from the outside of the car. The steering wheel and rear view mirror are visible in the top of the photo. The mount for the seatbelt is becoming damaged.

Photobucket
This is looking from the center of the rear seat area, towards the driver's side of the car. Much of the area where the passenger's feet would go has been eaten away by rust. Some other areas look almost new!
