Need Help with Front Coil Spring Information - Tears without Measure 200 1977

I can't answer your technical question regarding the different springs--while I've taken many measurements of rear springs 140/240--I've never done the same with 240/260 fronts. But I can tell you what worked for me when I rolled my V8 conversion (alumuinum 215 Oldsmobile-lighter than the B21-23- into a '76 265) out of the garage and found my headlights in the trees. As a "temporary" measure we did an old hot rod lowering trick--heating a stretch of the coil to cherry red and bouncing on the fender. We did each side till it looked "right". The drop in the spring is probably over 2". While the car was in the shop getting the V8 I had replaced the strut inserts with new KYB Gas-adjusts so I wasn't keen on taking it all apart right away to install 240 springs. Having the 260/diesel spring rate made for a much firmer ride with the lighter V8 and with doubled up 260 sway bars it had almost no lean driving on the road. In the end the springs never got changed--more than 150K miles later they're still on the car. -- Dave
