Door panel driving me crazy

I feel pretty confident that I am down to the last cosmetic issue on the revitalization 960 project left over from the previous owner. The top of my drivers side door panel will not stay in place.
The panel was barely hanging on when I first got the car but that was ok because I had to get in there to straighten some connections and door handle problems anyway. I got the car with no working door handle on the outside and what looked like the survivor of a interior demo derby on the inside. I have finally got everything buttoned up, and the bottom was not easy, except for the top with those incredibly irritating black clips that I am beginning to think were only designed to work in attaching themselves to the metal of the door a limited number of times. My best guess now is that this these clips are bent beyond being recognized by the metal lip that they are supposed to be holding on to.

Has anyone else dealt with this? I wouldn't mind it so much if I was not reminded of it every time I opened or closed the door. It doesn't look all that good either. The only thing I can think of doing is to go to a junk yard and get some more of those clips, then see if I can replace my current ones. This doesn't look like alot of fun as the clips seem to be very well attached to the panel. Are there any other ways to deal with this? I really don't trust myself removing those old bent out of shape clips from the door panel and I know that it would be a very long and winding road to find another panel of the same color.

Thanks very much,
Jim Lee
