Power seat problem - not typical! 900 1997

I was planning on fixing the fore/aft motion today but I could not get the seat to move using the switches at all - none of the motions would work. If I hit a memory button, it would move no problem (except the fore/aft but I know that's a cable issue).

Is this likely to be a controller problem? I pulled the controller and the relays rattle a bit, seems like something is probably up with them. I tried to remove one to see what was going on inside, but the solder was too stubborn and I gave up.

I saw a controller on ebay for much more than I want to pay - the car is to be sold in the next couple of weeks and it seems a shame to put money into it now.

Thanks for any suggestions!

David
