Fuel pump failure???? 900

93 944T, 192K miles. I had the cruise control set at 70 mph yesterday, all was fine. All of a sudden, the engine acts like it wants to die. RPMs drop to 0, then surge up and down as though the engine wants to die. I gave her a little gas, and it quit. This sputtering happened 5 or 6 times while on the way home, and thankfully, I made it home this time. Does this sound like the fuel pump is ready for the grave, or is it something else? This felt JUST like the time I ran out of gas a few years ago... Engine felt like it was starving all of a sudden. Thanks guys for the help, -Scott in STL
