142 taillights 140-160

About a month ago I bought a 1969 142. I am enjoying cleaning her up and getting her ready for a new paint job.

I have a little bit of bodywork to do. There is a dent on the rear of the car between the license plate bracket and the passenger taillight. I have been able to remove the lights above the license plate bracket, the bracket and the taillight lens. However, I cannot remove the piece behind the lens. There are four small clips (white plastic pieces with a brass plug in the middle) that seem to hold the piece behind the lens in place.

I am reluctant to try to remove these clips. I don’t want to damage the clips or the light.

So, do these clips come out and release the piece behind the lens? Is there a special tool to remove the clips? Is there some other way to remove the part behind the lens?

Thank for you help.

Robert
