transmission fluid change 700

My 1990 740GL (automatic) with 200,000 miles is due for a fluid change. I have no record of the last tranny service. My question is will this cause my transmission to shift funny? I've been told by a local transmission shop that I'm on my own if I authorize this work and the tranny starts acting up. But I talked with the part's guy at the local Volvo dealership (who owns a Volvo of the same era) and he said I didn't have anything to worry about. The fluid does not appear or smell burnt and has remained on the full mark. The tranny does not leak and it shifts normal. It would make me feel better though if I had fresh fluid in the tranny.....
