I've got a 68 130 (122S sedan) that is having some front end issues. The right front wheel sounds like a bag of potatoes when it goes over a bump. It also pulls a bit to the right and in general fills me with concern. I've already taken the spring tension off using a floor jack to check for play in the ball joints. Those seems fine, but I did see that my upper A-arm bushings were almost gone.
If I'm lucky the noisy bag-of-potatoes noise is my bushing-less front suspension.
I ordered full bushing kit from Skandix, along with my new rear muffler and tail pipe and I plan to replace all the front suspension bushings asap.
I've previously replaced my wagon's rear-end bushings (blue poly), but a front end is a bit more than I've tried before. I'm a bit fearfull of the spring tension and do not want to end up like Phineas Gage - with a large mood-altering hole punched through my skull...
The kit is complete but it appears that some of the bushings will require a press, the rest look like I could install them with a bench vice at most.
Can anyone offer tips and procedural advice for this project? I cannot afford to pay someone to do the whole job, but I can probably get my neighbor mechanic to press in the big bushings. The rest will fall to my tools and skills...
Will alignment be a concern?
