Difficult-to-diagnose occasional hard start 200 1988

If your 88 has the LH 2.2 system like my 86, then there is no pump prime as the key is turned to the KII position like the later models. The pumps fire up when the starter is engaged. I had an intermittant problem once ,like you describe, when the idle air control valve was weak and/or sticking and slow to open. Bought a cheapie off of eBay to correct.
