Where does wire above oil separator go? 700 1988

I just changed my oil separator as suggested in the FAQ, but the replacement was bigger than the original, and I pulled out the white, well whitish, wire coming out of the block just above it. Its hard to see down there and I can't find where it comes from. I can't find any place that tells me what it is or what it does either. It comes out of a sensor in the block. It is a single wire with a male tongue and a white plastic cover that slips in somewhere. The wire is only about a foot long so it has to be somewhere handy, but I can't find it.

Any help would be appreciated.
