Hoping to prevail upon the public wisdom of you all out there.
The short story: '93 245 has had pretty much every mechanical component in the A/C system replaced, leak checked and charged/recharged -many- times. Still only blows around 50 degrees.
The long story: Bought a '93 245 for my wife after MANY months of searching for a good late model 245. Great condition, only thing it needed was replacing the discharge hose (from the compressor to the condensor). Wife -needs- the A/C, won't drive the car without it. Okay, had the hose replaced. It blew sortof cold air, but not very cold at all. Mechanic replaced the orifice tube (expansion valve) as it seemed to be heavilly gunked up. Okay, pumped down, recharged, and still not very cold. Mechs suspected the accumulator was clogged up, so replaced it. Still not so great. Compressor... and -still- only around 50 degrees. They are stumped, so are the manster techs at the local Volvo dealership.
The high side is only up to around 250-275 lbs, the low side runs around 35 lbs. The accumulator gets frosty, but the evaporator doesn't. The high side isn't getting high enough, and that's even with an excess load of refrigerant.
I know this may sound like a mechanic taking someone for a ride, but I know the mechs at the shop, they're very good, they're all friends, and I know that they're honest, and are -trying- to solve the problem.
So, is there something odd about the '93 that might make it tricky to diagnose the problem. Jumpered out the high switch, the low switch, and the vacuum switch, so the compressor just ran continuously, and still only around 50 degrees... What's up?
Anyone? Help please!
Thanks,
-Josh
