Aftermarket Steering Wheels -Installation 444-544

I hope some of you can help.

For the longest time, Ive been wanting to install this nice wood Nardi steering wheel on my Duett. Now I know a Nardi wheel is a little much for a Duett, but Ive had it a while and finally got a hub kit to fit it.

Everything looks rather straight forward: Take off the old wheel and install the hub adapter, bolt on the new wheel and you're good to go. Of course things never work out that way.

The hub adapter has the correct splines and what appears to be a roll pin on the back side (I assume this is to cancel the directional switch.

Problem lies in that the hub adapter cant go on to the splines as far as the original wheel. Splines on the steering shaft are about a 1/2" long. Then the hub adapter sits proud of the black plastic housing that shields the mechanism. Then the roll pin doesn't come close to the directional lever mechanism.

Likely is Im doing something wrong...but I cant see what it is. Any of you have any experience with this kind of project. Naturally the hub adapter is listed for 122 and 1800 but despite the splines being the same, the 544/Duett isnt listed. With no Amazon around I cant see if things are different there.

Bob
