71 142E Idle problem 140-160

Hi guys,
I have posted this question before, but want to ask again because I have yet to fix the problem.

My car is a factory D-jet, with the only mod being the perlux ignition. I have a serious idle problem. When I first start it from cold, it usually performs normally at around 800 rpm. After I drive it a minute or so, it will not drop below 2000 RPM. Last week, it shot up to 3000 rpm, and I decided that it was simply too dangerous to drive anymore until I get a definitive reason and a fix.

It seems to be mechanical, because if I 'tap' the gas pedal while it is in a high idle state, sometimes it will rise or fall a few hundred. I know that it is not the throttle cable or butterfly valve.

In an earlier post, someone mentioned that it could be the lower points on the distributor that control the firing. Perhaps it is the air bypass motor?

Any ideas? The weather is finally warm and I want to put some miles on her!

Please help if you can.

Thanks,

Jeremy
