940 Brake Job 900

During the annual automotive inspection the tech warned my wife that there was only about 10% of the front pads left. Actually it was 30% remaining. Close enough for me. Before installing the pads I used a layer of brake pad quiet as I always do. The secret of using this stuff is letting it dry for about an hour before the pads are installed.

I measured a .032” ridge on each side of the 1.02” thick rotors which leaves .956”. If the minimum is .91”, by the time the second set of brakes need replacing the rotors will need replacing with an estimated .89” remaining. The new pads seemed to fit into the existing pad grove just fine.

Caliper pins were lubed about a year ago. The caliper piston was pushed in after loosening the bleeder and not clamping the brake line. The break-in was positive, no chattering, pulling, shimmy or loss of stopping power. And gone will be the heavy duty dust from the Volvo pads. I’ll bleed the lines in the next couple weeks.
