I just acquired a nice 122 four-door but I smell fumes. I notice the shift boot rises off the floor a bit when I shift into second and fourth gear. Should the bottom square part of the shift boot be adhered to the floor? What is the best way to do it? Tape over the top or some sort of adhesive?

Thank you in advance for your help/suggestions.
