A note of thanks 700 1989

I finally got a day to fix my "turbo to exhaust manifold" leak, on my 89 740T. I use parentheses, because that's what a mechanic told me was the problem and that it would cost me $500 to fix it. After a trip to Volvo to get the gaskets, I pulled the maifold, to be surprised by the worst set of mani gaskets I have ever seen- three of them totally shot- they crumbled in my hand. And I could see two sets of imprints on the metal side of the gasket. Further inspection showed me that the previous owner had the turbo replaced, and some shmo reused the mani gaskets. I found silicon sealer on the turbo drain pipe at the block, no factory seal on the turbo actuator arm, and exhust mani washers in the wrong place. Oh yes, the turbo to manifold bolts were tight and securly locked down on two sides per bolt. they were not the problem. Outside of a go round with the under car manifold support bracket, all went well and by the book. No broken studs either, thanks to those who told me to soak the studs in PK (I used two cans of it)
So this is a thanks to this board, and the people here who gave me their advice, as well as the 700 FAQ.

Thanks lot lot- well about $450 worth.

Rick
