IN-TANK FUEL SENDING UNIT/PUMP QUESTION 200 1986

I recently replaced my in-tank fuel pump and noticed that there are 3 outlets coming off the top of the unit. Two have hoses connected to them and the third closest to the rear of the car has a rubber plug over it. What is that port for? If I wanted to install a small aux fuel tank over the wheels/behind the back seat (10-12 gallons or so) could the feed hose (by gravity) be tied into that extra port?
Has anyone else installed an aux fuel tank?

Thanks in advance.....
