77 264 Anniversary Edition - How rare is rare and what's it really worth 200 1977

My brother called me and said his friends uncle was selling a rare 70's Volvo and he knew I was looking for one. I was hoping for a 242GT or a Bertone. What I found was a lackluster 264 with an interesting history.
This is a limited edition of 500 50th Anniversary 1927-1977 264. This was only available to select dealers who sold the most cars for that year. He bought it new from a local dealer from a salesman who owed him a favor from back during Vietnam. He had a green 164 he traded in for it.
The car has the PRV 2.7 V-6 and an automatic. This scares me!
It does have the GT alloy wheels and gold & black stripes and a faded silver pant job. It also has the dash plaque and 1927-1977 symbols all over it.
He seems to think the car is worth 50 grand restored??? An identical 264 in the same shape would probably net $50. Especially with rust.
Would this worth buying for under 2 grand? It barely runs and hasn't been driven in almost 10 years. The front fenders and quarters are shot too.
I could restore this. I even have new fenders for it in my garage, but would this be worth my time. I really wanted a 242GT.
Need advice soon.
Ben
