Hi All, I'm still doing some R&R on my newly purchased 965, and have a few more questions...
I found that my coil connectors were disintegrating, and may be the cause of a startup problem. My battery and alternator are both good, but the engine has to turn over quite a few moments before it would start. I noticed that the problem gets worse after a drive, so I assumed that the coil connector insulation is disintegrating from the heat, and is probably very close to giving up the ghost. Is this a good assumption? I guess I'll find out when the new connectors come in, but in the meantime, I've got myself in a little pickle...
When removing the #1 spark plug, I accidentally knocked a small piece of the rubber insulation into the cylinder... DOH!!! So question is, how do I get it out? or do I even need to get it out?? I was thinking of pulling the injector connector on that cylinder, leave the spark plug out, and crank the engine and letting the piston just eject that stuff through the spark plug hole... is that a good idea to try?? could I be hurting more than helping??
Another thing... at the firewall end of the engine, right by the cam angle sensor, I found a red/white wire with a female bullet connector that isn't hooked up to anything. From the wiring diagram, I see that I'm supposed to have two ground wires on the backside of the head. One of them is grounded and I can see it, is this red/white wire the other ground??? It comes out of the same loom as the ignition coil wires, and I can't seem to trace it to anything.
Final question is concerning tie-rod ends and ball joints. I have new parts that I'd like to install, but I found that my picklefork is too wide for the tie-rod ball joint. So I went to the FAQ, and nowhere do I find mention of a picklefork. Instead, it advises me to slam the end of the ball joint stud with a sledgehammer to knock it out... does anyone have suggestions? Should I just go find a picklefork that will fit this ball joint, or could I just whack it until it pops out?
Thanks!!
