Ladies and gentleman, place your bets now on what the old 245L panel van broke this time.
Tonight, while driving home from my friends house I suddenly felt like taking my car for a bit more of a drive to see how well it's going.
I drove toward the city, and on impulse decided to take my car along the cruising strip in the city, where Sydney's hotrodders parade everything from supercharged Deuce coupe's through to Honda Civics with about 1" of ground clearance. As I joined the stream of fiberglass trafic, my old Volvo was the only car car capable of clearing a speedhump faster than 2mph.
It was overated, 10 minutes Crawling through traffic staring at the twin chrome 4" pipes on the hotted Proton in front of me and I was ready to turn for home. I thought it would be a laugh to drive along with all the streetrodders in my clapped out 245, but really all these boys do is sit in traffic on a friday night in very expensive cars making noise. Pretty boring night really. You might as well just play your stereo at home and make vroom noises. Think of the gas you'll save.
Anyway, that's not the point of this story. Driving home tonight about 12:30 AM and as I came over a rise on the freeway, my car shuddered. No problem I thought, just that main fuel pump dying.
As I got off the freeway, I pulled up to the lights, and found I had no turn signals. I also seemed to have bugger all power to my headlights, the dashlights were dim, the radio dial was dim, in short, sudden loss of juice.
I had a new battery on the shopping list already, to try and fix my starter solinoid issues, but to suddenly lose current while driving would suggest another problem wouldn't it? Could it be that the battery is actually fine and it won't charge up because of some other problem?
Could be I've just blown some fuses, I go through them fast, but what should I be looking for when I get the hood up in the morning. Hopefully I don't need a new alternater cos they are bloody expensive. Maybe that shudder I felt was my alternator belt snapping, if so it will be a quick fix.
Going to bed now, be nice if I can drive my car in the morning, all theories welcome.
